Moto G Android 5.0 Lollipop soak test starts in India today

Motorola will commence the Android 5.0 Lollipop soak test for the Moto G today, as revealed by a company's representative. The company already released the official updates for the Moto G (2014) and Moto X(2014).

The soak test for the latest Android version will start in India where users who've registered in the Motorola Feedback Network program will be the first to experience Lollipop on their Moto G. If you're not in that list fret not, as most probably the OTA update link will be captured and you'll be able to try it for yourself.

Sadly, Motorola's customer support representative didn't pinpoint a date when the update will start rolling out to everyone with a Moto G. In any case, the smoother the soak test goes, the sooner the update will launch. Fingers crossed.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge has curved its way into the stores of three US retailers. You can get it off contract, on-contract and with the carrier's respective upgrade early plan. You might want to sit down before we get to the pricing though.
AT&T
AT&T has put a $946 price tag on the Galaxy Note Edge for those who don't want a contract. And it's something you might want to consider, since signing a 2-year commitment brings down the price to $400. For comparison a Galaxy Note 4 is $826 off contract and $300 with a contract.
AT&T Next starts at $31.54 a month for 30 months, the middle stage is $39.42 for 24 months and the quickest option is $47.30 for 20 months. All these options total $946 at the end, of course.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile's Uncarrier strategy means there's no subsidy but you can get a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge for $870 or space them out to $36.25 a month for 24 months.
A Galaxy Note 4 is $750 or $31.24 for two years.

Sprint
Sprint has priced the Galaxy Note Edge the cheapest - $840 – but the two-year contract has you paying the most - $430 up front. The other option is 24 monthly payments of $35.
Again for comparison, a Galaxy Note 4 sets you back $720 off contract, $300 up front with a two-year Sprint contract or 24 payments of $30.
Verizon
Verizon isn't selling the Galaxy Note Edge yet but you can pre-register for it. There's no price yet.
US Cellular should offer the Note Edge as well, but there isn't a pre-register page just yet.

iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

iphone_6_plus_vs_galaxy_note_4.jpg

There's bad news for Samsung as it looks set to cede ground to Apple on its home turf of Korea.

According to WSJ's Korea Realtime blog, analysts estimate that pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have reached roughly 100,000 units, which is over three times the estimated 30,000 units that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 received over a similar time frame.

The pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus began in Korea on Friday. The three mobile carriers reportedly received "tens of thousands" pre-orders in less than an hour. The report notes that KT Corp., the first telecom company to introduce the iPhone in the Korean market, claimed that it racked up 10,000 orders in one minute of the sale, and 50,000 in thirty minutes for both the iPhone models.

On the other hand, LG Uplus Corp., which is selling the iPhone for the first time, claimed that it received 20,000 orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus within 20 minutes. The largest mobile carrier in Korean market, SK Telecom Co., also claimed that its first and second batch of pre-sale quota for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been fully booked, but it didn't reveal the numbers.

The numbers are likely to go higher as the pre-sale will continue till the smartphones hit store shelves on Friday, October 31.

The report notes that Apple has traditionally enjoyed very little success in Korea, with just 6 percent handset marketshare compared to Samsung's 63 percent, according to Counterpoint Research.

"But with Apple piggybacking on Samsung's large-screen strategy, there are concerns that Samsung will lose its only advantage, which has been its large screen sizes," Lee Seung-woo, an analyst with IBK Securities in Seoul told WSJ's Korea Realtime.

free ios apps-Tempo

We have had two great batches of paid iPhone and iPad apps on sale for free so far this week, and now we have our third. Yesterday’s list was heavy on camera apps —several of which are still free if you hurry — so today’s batch is a bit more diverse. As always, these sales could be over at any minute so be sure to download all these nifty iOS apps as soon as you can.
Paid iPhone and iPad apps that have been made available for free for a limited time by their developers. There is no way to tell how long they will be free. These sales could end an hour from now or a week from now — obviously, the only thing we can guarantee is that they were free at the time this post was written. If you click on a link and see a price listed next to an app instead of the word “free,” it is no longer free. The sale has ended. If you download the app, you will be charged.
Tempo-iOS
Usually $0.99.
Tempo. The Definitive Weather App. Fast, Beautiful, Accurate.

Tempo is the new weather app, invented by Alberto Ziveri, distributed by the italian laboratory Grafite and Andrea Fabbri.
Tempo the fastest app to look for the daily weather forecast at your local position, for the next 5 days. It’s the easiest to use and very accurate, too. We collect data from the Forecast.io service, which makes the average of multiple weather stations from all over the world. Tempo is simple, useful and it’s perfect to be your daily weather app at your current city. By tapping on each day you can discover more useful details about the weather, such as max or min temperature, humidity, sunset and sunrise times.
Tempo is just simple and perfect to discover whether the days will be nice or not (and how nice they will be).
Finally, following our laboratory Grafite philosophy, Tempo will be always updated. We love to create definitive project, it means we’ll often retouch or add details of the app, while keeping its origina simplicity.

Smartphone Security

Your smartphone carries a lot of things that an identity thief would love to have: stored passwords to online accounts, banking information, email addresses and phone numbers. How can you make sure your phone's private data stays private? Adam Levin, cofounder of the Identity Theft 911 website and former director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, offers these tips:
•Lock your phone with a password. It's the most basic security step, but one that some people skip. Yes, a hacker could break in anyway, but they may not want to bother. "Most bad guys will simply move on to the next — easier — target," Levin noted. "It's a lot easier for a thief to steal a smartphone with no password than it is to work on cracking your phone."
•When online shopping, use an app rather than your browser. Most major retail sites offer dedicated shopping applications that help shield you from fraudulent phishing sites and other scammer tricks, Levin said. Just be sure it's the official app before you download it.
•Log out. When you're done checking your credit card balance or checking account, be sure to sign out. "And never click the box asking the app to save your user ID or password," Levin suggested.
•Connect to Wi-Fi only when you need it. Turn off the feature on your phone (or laptop or tablet) that automatically connects you to any nearby Wi-Fi network, Levin recommended. If you don't, "hackers with the right software can easily hack your phone." And close your Bluetooth connection when you're done.
